December 23 - January 30 2011-2012

Opening December 22 2011 (only with invitation)

For visitors: December 23 - January 30 (except Mondays)

We invite you to visit the ambitious project of photo artists Elena and Vitaliy Vasilievy. Curator of project NO ART is Ricardo Fernandez - a member of the International Association of Art Critics AICA - who is eager to encourage visitors to "reflection and introspection" with  help of project.  The project NO ART, in which photographers have tried to solve all these problems with their works, begun a year ago, in December, at M17 Contemporary Art. Idea of the project originated with Vitaliy Vasiliev when he visited the M17 in the interval between expositions: empty walls, which are about to receive something new ... This impression became the main inspiration for photographers, setting the tone for a year of creation of the project. “No Art” - “There is no art."

"...we urge reflection and introspection regsrding the process, we demand to transform the process of freedom through contemporary art creation now. where is art, how do we get it and feel it? no thinking, no expression, no communication, no art"

Ricardo fernandes

curator of the project and member of AICA (international association of art critics)

NO ART

«NO ART» What if there were no more art?

«NO ART» – saying as banal as life itself. We have heard it many times. As often as art critics tried to label artistic creativeness.

«NO ART» – we say when ambitions take advantage of our feelings.

«NO ART», if art work is but a secondary, un-candid and non-sincere accomplishment of an artist leaving us with emptiness both in minds and thoughts.

«NO ART»  – is a kind of tuning instrument, a starting point, what’s next? Reference point for drifting in the world of unknown and emotional. It’s time that has stopped to fly, a crossroad where Past doomed to go meets Future destined to be born. After long road and resting it comes as new way to follow fascinating and intriguing with undiscovered. It’s hard to say what is actually better: a trip or a final stop.

Art work is like time discovered.

Art Vision in which reality is everything we ultimately face, all that counts. Our routine days, our dreams, moving in the present and moving beyond the time’s boudaries.

We are living in the spheres of history and universe. All is cycled like links of one chain.

The idea of NO ART project came to Vitaly Vasiliev’s mind when we had changed exposition of M17 Contemporary Art Center, while all walls were free from paintings and gallery halls were empty. This moment is always intoxicationg, what’s next? What kind of project?

It’s like an artist brooding over the white canvas. Blank space of canvas is attracting and stimulating imagination and creativity of a painter by its intrigue, he becomes reflective and concerned in front of it. An artist that feels like a master and creator of his idea while his canvas is still white and clean. With the first dab of the brush the canvas is being covered with his thoughts and forms designed to please and delight as forthcoming art object. Just as if brush strokes had filled canvas with his creative energy. This energy is charging plasticity and structure of his painting aimed to intensify and express its creative idea.

We are calling it NO ART in the hope that next project might bring us excitement and fresh point of view of a painter involved into creative process and inspired by the clean space of our Contemporary Art Center so that he would replenish its emptiness with his creative ideas and emotions.

I consider that art shows the way to the domain of ideal where we can all find sincere joy, real happiness and true love. Art is not mere delight or emotional experience, but the way of life and a route for salvation.

I do believe that works of art are created to bring us happiness.

Ruslan Tarabukin,

Co-founder of  M17 Contemporary Art Center, Kiev
